The UND School of Law is privileged to welcome Peter S. Pantaleo as our Inaugural Distinguished Practitioner-in-Residence. A 1976 graduate of the UND School of Law and Editor-in-Chief of the North Dakota Law Review, Mr. Pantaleo is the New York managing partner of DLA Piper, one of the largest law firms in the world, with more than 3,700 lawyers in offices in 25 countries. Mr. Pantaleo is also chair of the firm’s U.S. labor and employment group, and is co-leader of the global practice in those areas.

The Distinguished Practitioner-in-Residence Program brings leaders in the practice of law to the School of Law for an extended visit with our law school community. The schedule includes visits to classes, informal receptions, and a presentation by the legal expert on a topic of his or her choice, as well as a formal dinner honoring our Distinguished Practitioner. The Program provides our students, faculty and staff with an opportunity to spend time with leading figures in legal practice, and significantly enhances the law school experience.

Bio

Peter Pantaleo is the Managing Partner of DLA Piper’s New York Office. He serves as the joint global leader of DLA Piper’s Employment, Pensions and Benefits group and chairs the firm’s US Labor and Employment group. In addition, he is a member of the DLA Piper US LLP Executive Committee.

In his practice, Mr. Pantaleo represents both domestic and international employers in labor, employment, and civil rights matters. The primary focus of his practice is advising multinational employers in complex, politically sensitive labor and employment matters. This includes assisting companies in the negotiation of employment and severance agreements for high level executives, and advising employers confronted with traditional union organization efforts as well as corporate campaigns. Mr. Pantaleo regularly works with lawyers in the firm’s European, Asian, and Middle Eastern offices to assist clients with cross border labor and employment issues.

Mr. Pantaleo speaks frequently at industry conferences and has published numerous articles on various labor topics. He is a Fellow of the American College of Labor and Employment Attorneys, a Member of the Editorial Board of the Gaming Law Review and Member of the Board Of Business Advisors of the City University of New York.

He received his J.D. from the University of North Dakota in 1976, where he currently serves as the University’s first Distinguished Practitioner in Residence. He received a B.A. from the University of Wisconsin in 1971. He is admitted to practice in New York and the District of Columbia.
