Staff Disciplinary Policy

  1. INTRODUCTION

The reputation of North Dakota Law Review depends, in great part, upon the reliability and accuracy of the publication. The law review staff, by checking for proper citation form and substantive accuracy, performs an essential step in the publication process. Timely performance of staff duties is critical. North Dakota Law Review relies upon the professionalism and teamwork of its staff members. However, disciplinary problems may arise, and to handle those incidents, the law review board has developed a disciplinary policy.

  2. PROCEDURE

    1. FIRST NOTICE

If a staff member has not satisfactorily completed a cite and source assignment by the due date or has missed a mandatory staff meeting, the staff member must sign a notice that will be placed in the staff member's law review file. A cite and source assignment will be deemed "not satisfactorily completed" if the staff member "signs off" on an assignment and the Managing Editor, upon going through the assignment, finds that the assignment has not been completed thoroughly and proficiently.

    2. SECOND NOTICE

If a staff member has signed a first notice as outlined in part II.A., the staff member must sign a second notice that will be placed in the staff member's law review file if the staff member: (1) has failed to satisfactorily complete a cite and source assignment by the due date; or (2) has failed to attend a mandatory staff meeting. After the second notice, the law review board will be notified.

    3. THIRD NOTICE

If a staff member has signed a second notice as outlined in part II.B., the staff member must sign a third notice that will be placed in the staff member's law review file if the staff member: (1) has failed to satisfactorily complete a cite and source assignment by the due date; or (2) has failed to attend a mandatory staff meeting. After the third notice, the law review board will recommend to the Dean of the University of North Dakota School of Law that the staff member's law review candidacy for membership be terminated and that any law review credit received be rescinded.
