Resume Do's and Don'ts
Do
- Be concise, accurate, and positive.
- Include a current address, email address, and phone number.
- Describe honors and work experience if not self-explanatory.
- Include and describe all law/legal related work experience.
- Proofread for typographical, grammatical, or spelling errors.
- Target and adapt your resume for different employers.
- Keep personal data, hobbies, and interests pertinent and to a minimum.
- Include any computer skills you may have.
- Get another opinion on your resume.
- Use a laser printer for clarity and neatness.
Don't
- Include irrelevant information.
- Use legal size paper.
- Use poor quality photocopies.
- Exaggerate job experiences or academic achievement.
- Exceed two pages in length, one page is preferred.
- Underline or indent excessively.
- Use a font that is difficult to read.
- Use a nickname or slang.
- Crowd the page.
- Title your document "Resume".
