Resume Do's and Don'ts

Do

  • Be concise, accurate, and positive.
  • Include a current address, email address, and phone number.
  • Describe honors and work experience if not self-explanatory.
  • Include and describe all law/legal related work experience.
  • Proofread for typographical, grammatical, or spelling errors.
  • Target and adapt your resume for different employers.
  • Keep personal data, hobbies, and interests pertinent and to a minimum.
  • Include any computer skills you may have.
  • Get another opinion on your resume.
  • Use a laser printer for clarity and neatness.

Don't

  • Include irrelevant information.
  • Use legal size paper.
  • Use poor quality photocopies.
  • Exaggerate job experiences or academic achievement.
  • Exceed two pages in length, one page is preferred.
  • Underline or indent excessively.
  • Use a font that is difficult to read.
  • Use a nickname or slang.
  • Crowd the page.
  • Title your document "Resume".
